From my experience of teaching courses in the KCC Adult Education Service,
and now for my own classes and workshops, I have written, and personally printed,a
fully illustrated 22 page Course contained in a clear pocket Presentation Display Book.
This is a comprehensive look at painting in watercolour which I have called WATERCOLOUR WORKSHOP.
It starts with the theory of colour, and understanding the effects of colours in relationship to each other, moving on to mixing the complementaries to attain a whole range of beautiful neutral and delicate colours.
Then, progressing from these exercises, we put into practice the techniques of applying and overlaying washes.
There are tips for tackling drawing, tonal values, composition and design, working with pens, using photography, and leading on eventually to practical workshop ideas.
In essence encouraging you to feel confident in attempting to convey the fascination of the three dimensional world around us
on to that, sometimes daunting, sheet of white paper.
It will then follow, whether it be in landscape, flower painting, portrait, still life, imagination, or whatever your personal interest and enthusiasm, you will be more able and encouraged to create your own vision.
The Course Book is illustrated throughout to complement the text, and the aim is to enable those interested to look with a heightened sense of observation and awareness.
Helping you to look with a new intensity.
Studying, and starting, with what we may think of as the simplest things around us, like a leaf, flower, shell, or an over turned stone, venturing on to observing animals, people, wonderful and spectacular landscapes. Endeavouring then to convey, your own choice of subject, in your own unique way.
Someone once said, and the quote has been attributed to Georges Seurat (1859-91), that “The poetry of vision is not what you see but how you see it”.

We welcome all abilities at these workshops and classes.
My aim is to encourage everyone to enjoy drawing and painting and progress at their own pace.
I enjoy starting people off on this voyage of discovery, and am just as pleased at each achievement
they are. The whole group is run on a very friendly, supportive basis.
Usually there are two or three groups working at the same time, according to preference and ability. After some understanding of the basics - in colour and drawing - other projects can gradually be introduced. More experienced students then like to pursue their own ideas and I will then endeavour
to encourage and help as much as I can.
Sometimes I will demonstrate ideas and techniques and this is open to anyone who wants to join in. Other times we have discussions on paintings, looking at composition, and thinking about motivation of other artists, both of the past and present.
Having seen a demonstration of the new Atelier Interactive Acrylics I now use them and
demonstrate their innovative qualities.
